Medications
Sufferers of Type 1 Diabetes are required to take insulin injections as recommended by their physician, which could be a short acting insulin such as Lispro (Humalog) or Aspart (NovoLog)or a long action insulin such as Glargine (Lantus).
Type 2 Diabetes patients may be required to take medications such as Metformin (Fortamet or Glumetza).
Other medications include Sulfonylureas, Meglitinides, D-phenylalanine derivatives, which help the pancreas to make insulin more rapidly, Thiazolidinediones, which increase the body’s sensitivity to insulin and Biguanides, which decrease the amount of glucose that is produced by the liver.
