Risk factors
- Diabetes can be an inherited disease, which can exist in a person’s genes.
- Though High Blood Sugar can affect people at any age, studies show that 80% of the cases occur in people above the age of 50.
- People whose blood contains a high level of triglycerides and cholesterol, as well as those who are obese can have a resistance to insulin absorption and as a result are a high risk group.
- People who do not exercise at least 3 times a week are also at risk of developing Diabetes Symptoms.
- Those who have a poor diet, including a low intake of protein and a high intake of processed foods are more at risk of developing High Blood Sugar.
- Certain drugs, including Risperidone (Risperdal), Clozapine (Clozaril), ziprasidone (Geodon) and Quetiapine (Seroquel) have also been found to induce this disease.
- People who lead a very stressful lifestyle or have hypertension are also a high risk group for Diabetes.
